ABOUT US
The name Invisible Thread is based on the Chinese proverb that states, “An invisible red thread connects those that are destined to meet regardless of time, place, and circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle but it will never break.”
As a lactation counselor, birth worker, perinatal mental health professional, and car seat technician, providing services in Boston, MA and on The South Shore, Invisible Thread Perinatal & Lactation Services founder, Alyssa DeGeorge, believes in empowering families by teaching them skills and information to grow children fully and considers those skills the red thread she weaves into family’s lives.
Alyssa believes in the philosophy that it takes a village to raise a child and she is honored to be part of many villages. Invisible Thread is designed to provide services to parents before, during, and after pregnancy and birth primarily focusing on the first year postpartum. Her goal is to provide individualized support and comprehensive care while teaching birthing parents, partners, and involved family members newborn care from evidence-based resources, ultimately giving them the tools to make the best decisions for their family.
She hopes that this knowledge and empowerment will carry families through every stage, including toddlerhood and adolescence. Although she may not be present for every stage of the child’s life, she hopes that the invisible thread she weaves will stay with them and their family forever. The core values of Invisible Thread are inclusivity, diversity, equity, safety, and kindness.
Alyssa has always been drawn to helping, supporting, and encouraging others which is why she pursued her Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders at Emerson College and her dual Master's Degree in Special Education at Lesley University. She taught Special Education for a few years in Boston and on the South Shore before leaving the field to have her children. Alyssa became passionate about the postpartum period after the birth of her first daughter in 2018.
During her first postpartum experience, Alyssa felt completely overwhelmed and realized how underprepared birthing parents are for the intricacies of the fourth trimester. Feeling completely lost, Alyssa extensively researched newborn care and informally supported friends and family members with her newly acquired knowledge. When her second daughter was born in 2020, she felt more prepared for caring for her baby but was met with the challenge of simultaneously raising her young toddler during a pandemic with undiagnosed Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). Alyssa has always called the South Shore home and lives in Scituate, MA, with her husband, two daughters, and French Bulldogs, Mitchell & Frannie. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially at the beach, reading, yoga, cooking, and is an aspiring gardener.
When receiving support antenatally, families can expect personalized prenatal services in the comfort of their own homes that will prepare them for pregnancy, postpartum, and far beyond.
Alyssa takes an evidenced-based, non-judgmental approach to supporting parents on their feeding journeys.
The daytime postpartum doula relieves parents of household duties, focusing on bonding with and caring for their little love.
Adjusting to life with a newborn can be challenging, especially while recovering from birth. The overnight postpartum doula role is designed to allow parents to sleep and rest, aiding in recovery and restoring overall wellness.
The need for support does not end after the fourth trimester! Parent coaching is designed to help you troubleshoot any issues associated with toddlerhood and beyond.
Studies have shown that birthing people who have the support of a doula are more likely to have a positive birth experience. They are also less likely to experience complications such as postpartum depression.
